Khachapuri is everywhere in Georgia because the Kartveli people are very proud of it. And for good reason! This unique cheese bread (never tell a Kartveli it's like pizza) is made by making the bread from scratch and adding Georgian cheese in the middle. It is then dressed with a raw egg and some butter, all of which the diner mixes together to get a little taste of Kartveli heaven.
Jonjoli, a very traditional pickled appetizer. It contains the unique georgian wild edible flowers which have to be picked and prepared in a specific way and vegetables. It's a unique and unforgettable flavour.
Another iconic dish, lobio (not to be confused with lobiani) is a simple bean stew. It contains lots of fresh and dried herbs and is a warming, wholesome dish that makes you feel fuzzy. Oh, and if that wasn't enough, it's also served with a Georgian cornbread hat!
Lobiana is bean paste in bread. People eat it whenever they are hungry for a nutritious snack on the go, but it has special significance on St. Barbara’s Day (December 17th).
Much like khachapuri, khinkali is another iconic Georgian food the natives are proud of and love to eat. It's a special type of dumpling with a knot at the top and traditionally only contains seasoned beef and a delicious steaming meat broth. But at more modern restaurants you can find khinkali filled with cheese, cherries and even chocolate!
