PAWS NY (Pets Are Wonderful Support) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping New York City’s most vulnerable residents remain with their beloved pets by providing critical support services. Recognizing the profound physical and emotional benefits of the human-animal bond, PAWS NY offers programs such as volunteer dog walking, cat care, a pet pantry, veterinary care, and foster and emergency care. Their core Housecall Program delivers in-home services including dog walking, medication administration, and pet feeding for aging, disabled, or ill clients who face obstacles in caring for their pets. They also provide emergency foster care for pets when owners are hospitalized, or fleeing domesetic abuse, and distribute pet food to those struggling financially. Through a dedicated community of partners and volunteers, PAWS NY helps keep pets and their owners together, providing stability, comfort, and companionship during difficult times. The organization welcomes volunteers and donors who want to support their mission of “helping people by helping pets.” That we know of , PAWS is the the only organization in the nation providing this service.

Despite challenges such as funding and organic farming obstacles, Share the Harvest consistently provides a critical source of nourishment, donating over 45,000 pounds of produce in 2024 alone and supporting around 1,000 families weekly. The farm also operates a seasonal farm stand to raise funds and engage the community, with volunteer opportunities and annual events like the Summer Soirée that bring neighbors together to support their mission. Hamptons Community Outreach | New York

Hamptons Community Outreach is a dedicated nonprofit on Long Island’s East End focused on lifting neighbors out of poverty by addressing their most critical needs and creating transformative opportunities. Since its founding in 2018 by social worker Marit Molin, HCO has grown from a summer art camp for underprivileged children into a wide-reaching organization impacting thousands of lives annually.  Their work spans food outreach—providing weekly groceries and cooked meals to hundreds of families—to housing repairs, having renovated 68 homes with dozens more on the waiting list. HCO also offers child-centered programs including tutoring, college counseling, summer camp, and holiday support, aiming to give children the resources they need to thrive. The organization’s crisis care initiatives help cover urgent medical and basic living expenses, as well as support vulnerable populations such as the homeless. Taking a personalized, hands-on approach, HCO meets people where they are and mobilizes the wider community to help create a stronger, more inclusive East End.

In New York, OneGoal partners with public high schools to provide a unique, three-year program that begins in the junior year and extends through the crucial first year of college. Led by Program Directors who are often teachers within the schools, the program equips students with the academic skills, college application guidance, financial aid support, and non-cognitive skills essential for postsecondary success. OneGoal’s New York programs focus on empowering underserved students to graduate from college and improve their life trajectories, addressing systemic inequities in higher education access. Through personalized support and strong school partnerships, OneGoal aims to ensure that every student has the opportunity to achieve their greatest educational and career goals.

CASA | New York

CASA-NYC is a volunteer-driven nonprofit dedicated to supporting children and youth involved in New York City’s child welfare system. Their work spans across all five boroughs to ensure that young people in foster care have their needs met, rights protected, and are moved quickly into safe, stable, nurturing, and permanent homes, preferably with their families of origin whenever possible. CASA’s staff includes licensed social workers and attorneys who help families navigate the complex child welfare and court systems. They also train recruit, and support hundreds of volunteer advocates who provide child-centered advocacy through a social justice lens. The organization serves approximately 1,100 young people each year, though many more need support. Their work is grounded in core values including child safety, family stability, justice, efficacy, collaboration, and a commitment to anti-racism and equity.
