Games Pretty Much Made for Deck

People seem to think that ANY game can run on Deck. Not true of course, but some games just run VERY well on Deck and it feels like they were made specifically for this handheld gaming computer (no, it's not a console!) So check out the list and tell me any I've missed.

The Spell Brigade

I love this one because, although it's basically just a Survivors-like, it has a cute, appealing art style, and it's Co-OP! Perfect for a chill and a chat with my baby bro, who lives in another country. And it has always run perfectly on Deck, despite still being in Early Access.

Cuphead

The art style is bold and old-school Disney-esque, with the dialogue to match, the characters are distinctive, and the gameplay is hard AF! Plus, it runs really well on Deck, with tight controls and a high frame rate, as you'd expect for a game that ran well on consoles.

Crypt of the NecroDancer

I love how distinctive the gameplay feels in this rhythm game where you and the enemies can only move to the rhythm of the funky music. As you'd expect for a 2D game, it runs well on the Deck with good controls and high frame rates, plus it doesn't drain much of the battery when you are undocked.

NieR:Automata

I always love delving back into the post-apocalyptic world where the existential androids 2B, 9S, and A2 join forces to defeat the machines that have taken over. Exploration feels immersive, even on the fifth or sixth replay and combat is chunky and fluid. And I love the ladder play on this game, I don't know why! Plus the Deck only exists because of this game. So you can expect very high frame rates and controls as tight as 2B's, er... personality.

Darkest Dungeon

Some people hate the RNG (random number generator) on this one, but those people are just silly. Mental breakdowns, fatal heart attacks and all-consuming darkness, along with the ability to heal the mental health of your crew make this one a winner for me. And since it's quite an old 2D game it runs great on Deck.

Enter the Gungeon

I have never played a game with so many satisfying secrets and insane replayability. One of the best old-school bullet hell shooters to come out in recent memory. And runs great on Deck.

ROUNDS

My baby brother beats me nearly EVERY time. But I still love this 1v1 roguelite shooter because it has us pissing ourselves with laughter when we accidentially kill ourselves or get a lucky kill. And it's always run perfectly on Deck, thanks to simple visuals.

Death's Door

Dark humour and something hard to place about how damn well made this game and the world are constructed made this an instant classic for me. I also adore the Ghibli-inspired soundtrack

Minishoot Adventures

As many have said on r/SteamDeck, this laid-back 2D twin-stick shooter with cute, bright visuals feels made for Deck. It features tight controls, especially when docked with an Xbox controller.

BioShock Remastered

What can be said about this old-school, genre-defining classic that hasn't already been said? Big Daddies, Little Sisters, Atlas... the story was twisty and turny, the visuals murky as a Lovecraftian novel and the gameplay rich and immersive. Have I missed anything? Oh yeah, it runs very well on Deck... As long as you get the Remastered version. So would you kindly pick this up in Steam sales for a very cheap price?

BZZZT

The world and even the title of BZZZT is dripping with kitch charm and the visuals are cute and soundtrack intense as the gameplay. It runs great docked or undocked, but I love to play it handheld because the tiny player-character protagonist fits perfectly onto a tiny screen.

DAVE THE DIVER

There was once an innocent time when people thought Dave The Diver was from a tiny indie developer. We now know that's not true but diving for rare, tropical fish to sell in the sushi restaurant is super fun and there's a playful story to uncover too. Plus a DLC! It has worked great on Deck, even at the demo stage, so no excuse not to pick it up on sale.
